Knox Presbyterian Church in Vankleek Hill hosted the 2026 World Day of Prayer service on Friday, March 6. The service was written by Christian women in Nigeria and the theme was, “I will give you rest: come,” based on Matthew 11:28-30. People from surrounding communities gathered to join with Christians around the world on a common day to sing praises, read scripture, listen to stories, and prayers by these women. This small country in southwestern Africa is home to more than 230 million people. Christians in Nigeria face significant persecution and violence.

Each year, six local churches participate in the planning and take turns hosting the World Day of Prayer Service. At the end of the service, the special World Day of Prayer candle was passed on to the congregation at Paroisse Saint-Pierre-Apôtre in Hawkesbury, which is next year’s host church.

The service at Knox was followed by fellowship in the Archie Hardy Hall.
