The Vankleek Hill Cougars are off to the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) finals, after sweeping the South Grenville Rangers in four straight games.
The Cougars closed out the NCJHL semi-final series with a 5-1 road win on Sunday evening (March 15), just 24 hours after taking a 3-0 stranglehold on the series by winning 6-2 in front of their home fans at the Vankleek Hill Arena on Saturday night (March 14).
Bradley Horner, Alexandre Chenier, Garrett Cunning, Alexandre Mayer, and Xavier Plante all scored individual goals in Sunday’s win, while Liam Lynn had two assists. Vankleek Hill goaltender Tristan Paquette earned the win in net and added an assist on Chenier’s goal midway through the third period.
On Saturday night, Cody Horner potted two goals to lead the Cougars to the 6-2 victory, while Lynn, Mike Fournier, Ryder Hill, and Ryan Wolowicz each scored singles. Mael Gendron earned the win in goal.
The Cougars will now have to wait to see who they will face in the NCJHL finals, from what has been a very close semi-final series between the Kanata Kings and Westport Rideaus. The Rideaus won 4-3 on Sunday evening to take three games to two lead in the series. That series will wrap up next weekend, with the NCJHL final series to begin the following weekend.
