On Thursday, February 26, Champlain Township Council unanimously approved a motion to eliminate the garage sale permit requirement for the weekend of the annual Vankleek Hill Trash ‘n’ Treasure town-wide garage sale.
Trash ‘n’ Treasure is a one-day event on Saturday, June 6, but garage sale permits will not be required anywhere in Champlain Township from Friday, June 5, to Sunday, June 7.
Each year, Champlain Township offers residents the opportunity to host garage sales free of charge during the Trash ‘n’ Treasure weekend.
The initiative encourages community engagement, promotes local commerce, and invites residents and visitors to explore the township. Local retailers and other business merchants are also encouraged to hold sidewalk sales during this event.
Now in its 23rd year, the Trash ‘n’ Treasure event is organized by the Vankleek Hill Business and Merchant Association (BMA).
Under the township’s bylaw, garage sale permits typically cost $7 for a first sale, with subsequent permits during the calendar year costing $35. Permits expire after three days.
