Champlain Township Council unanimously voted to give itself a raise on Thursday, February 26. The rise accounts for an approximate 1.7 per cent increase from 2025 and is due to annual cost-of-living adjustments.
In 2025, councillors received $24,587 each in remuneration, with the mayor receiving $48,588, plus eligible expenses.
This year, councillors will receive $25,007, or $420 more, while the mayor will receive $49,388, or $800 more.
Additionally, council members are entitled to $130 per meeting for attending their designated liaison committee, other officially appointed committees, or special council meetings. There was no change made to this amount from 2025.
The remuneration by-law was unanimously adopted without further discussion. Councillor Ginette Clément was absent from the meeting.
