The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet is receiving $8.7 million from the Ontario government for rehabilitation work on the sewage system in Plantagenet.
The funding, announced by Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Stéphane Sarrazin on Thursday, February 12, is from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS).
The funding will be used to rehabilitate and expand two sewage pumping stations and their associated force mains in the village of Plantagenet. The project includes installing SCADA/PLC remote monitoring with secure telemetry and analytics, variable frequency drives and pump control tuned to Best-Efficiency-Point, condition-based monitoring for predictive maintenance, self-cleaning wet-well geometry with solids-handling pumps and submersible mixers, odour control, and provisions for wastewater heat recovery and emergency backup power, as well as the replacement and upsizing of approximately 300 metres of force main at pumping station no. 1, and upgrade of roughly 970 metres of force main at pumping station No. 2.
“The outcomes of this water infrastructure project will improve health and safety for our citizens and promote the preservation of the current housing supply within the community, while allowing for significant growth in Plantagenet for years to come,” said Alfred and Plantagenet Mayor Yves Laviolette.
