There is still snow on the ground and ice on the river, but road construction season is about to start early on the only bridge crossing the South Nation River in Casselman.
A rehabilitation project on the Paul-Émile Lévesque Bridge which carries County Road 3 across the South Nation River is to begin on Monday, February 17 and continue until the end of 2026. According to the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR), the project includes complete reconstruction of the bridge deck, widening of the roadway to improve traffic flow and safety, construction of an expanded pedestrian sidewalk, installation of new steel guardrails, and the addition of street lighting.
The bridge will remain open to traffic for the duration of the project; however, some restrictions will be in place, including reduced lane widths. There will also be modified pedestrian access, but this access will have to be temporarily closed during certain phases of the project. Project updates will be provided as work progresses and will be available on Municipal511: https://www.municipal511.ca.
The UCPR recognizes that a construction project of this scope may impact local residents, businesses, and commuters. The UCPR appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience throughout the duration of this project. Every effort will be made to complete the work on schedule, while minimizing disruptions to the community.
