On Monday, February 2, Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG) Counties Council approved a motion to split the design costs of the Main Street refurbishment project in Alexandria with the Township of North Glengarry, with each entity contributing $161,556.21, inclusive of HST. The total cost of the design is approximately $317,524 plus HST.
SDG Counties Manager of Capital Works Roads Division Dana Grant said the design proposal from EVB Engineering will include improvements and reconstruction along County Road 34/Main Street, Mill Square, and County Road 10. The design costs will be split equally between the Counties and North Glengarry, Grant concluded.
In his report to council, Grant said the revised work plan will outline the proposed design activities, assigned project resources, estimated labour requirements, and associated fees needed to complete the work. The plan is based on EVB’s original 2022 proposal and has been updated to reflect refinements presented by SDG Counties and North Glengarry.
Grant said that the revised costs reflect the incorporation of work previously completed by an earlier engineering consultant and remain within the Counties’ approved $260,000 design budget. After accounting for the $161,556.21 contribution, the Counties will have a design surplus of approximately $98,000.
The report states the Main Street reconstruction aims to create a more livable downtown core that can be enjoyed by pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.
