Brownsburg-Chatham Council met on January 13 and a series of projects are on their way for various municipal services and facilities.
Up to $3,700,000 could be spent on improvements to various municipal buildings. A notice of motion and regulation was introduced, which would allow the expenditure if it were adopted by council. Clerk Pierre-Alain Bouchard said the buildings include the former Maison des Jeunes building, the municipal office building, and fire station beside the municipal office building.
The municipality is proceeding with efforts to acquire a new pumper-tanker truck for the fire department. A notice of motion and regulation were introduced, which if adopted by council, will allow up to $1,565,000 to be spent on the new vehicle. Council also approved the beginning of the request for proposal process from potential suppliers of the new truck.
A notice of motion for a regulation to spend up to $1,700,000 on the development of a new nature park and picnic area was introduced. The regulation still requires adoption or rejection by council on three readings at future meetings. Clerk Pierre-Alain Bouchard said the amount which could be spent is only an estimate.
In connection with the nature park project, council awarded a contract valued at $43,359 to Karyne Architecte Pasaygiste (KAP) Inc. for landscape design work related to the park.
No signatures were registered by citizens regarding plans to spend an additional $350,000 on renovations at the Gilles Lupien Arena. This means that no referendum on the council decision will be held and the renovations will proceed.
