The Vankleek Hill Food Bank is seeking new volunteers from the community to join its board of directors for the upcoming year. The election of new members will take place at the charity’s upcoming annual general meeting (AGM), which will be held on February 12. The AGM will be open to the public, as it has been in previous years.
The election format will be slightly different for 2026, as all nine board positions will be elected by popular vote to a one-year term. Any member of the public can run for election to the board so long as they meet certain criteria, which include the ability to commit 10 hours a month to board meetings and committee work and to work in a digital-first environment. Candidates must also be at least 18 years old, a local resident, and able to clear a police record check and sign a confidentiality agreement once elected.
The Vankleek Hill Food Bank is busy year-round with a thrift store that raises money for its operations, as well as a weekly drop-in lunch. The organization prepares and distributes monthly food hampers to clients who live in Vankleek Hill, East Hawkesbury, St-Bernadin, St-Eugène and St-Anne-de-Prescott. The Food Bank also helps fund the breakfast programs at six local schools and distributes holiday hampers in December.
The AGM will include a brief report on the past year’s activities and a look forward at plans for a busy upcoming year. Those interested in a position on the board of directors are encouraged to submit a letter of interest by email to [email protected] no later than January 31, 2026. General questions about directorship can also be directed to this email address.
The AGM will take place Thursday Feb. 12 at 6:30 pm at the Creating Centre at the corner of Main and High streets in Vankleek Hill. Attendance is open to interested members of the general public, although attendance does not confer voting rights.
