Dear Editor,

On January 4, the “President of Peace” announced he had kidnapped the President of Venezuela and would run the country to “benefit the people of the United States” (ie. American oil companies). He further threatened the governments of Colombia and Mexico and added he would not bother to invade Cuba as he expected it to collapse, but he would take the Panama Canal.

Trump went on to re-state his intention to invade Greenland and seize it for the U.S. He added that Denmark did not have the military capacity to defend Greenland. Canada was not mentioned but as Trump has already made clear, he will not invade our country militarily, but will strangle it economically. (See upcoming trade talks).

Not a word of dissension was heard from the U.S. Congress, the Supreme Court nor the U.S. military.

Canada should join with Denmark to call for an emergency meeting of all NATO members to re-state their commitment to NATO’s Article 5 – the document which guarantees that an attack on one member constitutes an attack on all. Should the United States refuse to commit to this foundational principle, it should be suspended as a member, and the people of the United States should be informed they are regarded as a rogue state with full tariffs levied against them.

Sincerely,

ian hepburn
