On Monday, December 8, East Hawkesbury Council awarded engineering and architectural service contracts for the planned Saint-Eugène fire station. The contracts represent the first phase of the project’s design work ahead of construction and total $81,800 plus applicable taxes.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Treasurer Luc Lalonde said that the service proposal from Alex Warwick Design Associates Ltd. provided the most competitive price for architectural services at $36,500 plus taxes, which was $27,440 less than the submission from Wilson Architectural Design. Lalonde added that the costs are accounted for in the municipality’s 2026 budget and will be financed once construction is completed.

Council also approved Lascelles Engineering and Associates Ltd. to provide engineering services for the fire station at a cost of $45,300 plus taxes. Lalonde said that the firm’s approach allows municipal staff to remain involved in the construction process, including work related to site location and elevation plans. He noted that this process is expected to reduce administrative costs.

The engineering contract includes $17,300 for structural design, $12,000 for mechanical and electrical design, and $4,350 for geotechnical analysis, along with additional costs for tendering and septic system design.

There is currently no estimated ground-breaking date for the new fire station.

Council unanimously approved both contracts without further discussion.
