At the Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil Council meeting on Wednesday, November 26, Lachute Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis was unanimously elected as Prefect of the regional government for the 2026-2028 term. Wentworth Mayor Jason Morrison was also unanimously elected as the Deputy Prefect for the two-year term.
Bigras-Denis previously served as Deputy Prefect from November 2023 to November 2025, and has been involved in numerous regional projects, including the MRC’s Investment Committee from 2021 to 2025. Bigras-Denis succeeds the previous Mayor of Gore, Scott Pearce, who held the position for six consecutive terms and did not seek re-election in the 2025 Québec municipal elections.
“I intend to take on this mandate by promoting a regional vision focused on sustainable development, collaboration between municipalities, and the enhancement of our territory’s strengths,” Bigras-Denis said.
“Together, we will advance major projects that will stimulate development in our MRC and help it shine with pride, for the benefit of all,” he concluded.

Morrison has been a member of the MRC council since 2015 and established the WILD Trust, a significant environmental conservation initiative.
Morrison said he is taking on the role with optimism and dedication, as he looks forward to projects that will shape the future of the MRC.
