Église Saint-Pierre-Apôtre church in Hawkesbury is now completely accessible, and a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation made it possible.

On Saturday, November 8, a new exterior ramp and interior stair lift were officially inaugurated. The parish received $172,300 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the project. Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Member or Provincial Parliament Stéphane Sarrazin congratulated the parish for receiving the grant and undertaking the project. Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre also extended his congratulations to the parish.

Finance Campaign Committee Chair René Berthiaume noted that in 2026, Église Saint-Pierre-Apôtre will commemorate 100 years since the church building was rebuilt following a fire. Berthiaume said accessibility is important for a centre of spiritual, social, and cultural activity.

“This improvement will ensure full access for people with limited mobility,” Berthiaume said.
