Did you know you can access documents online about Canadians who served in World Wars One and Two?
Library and Archives Canada, which is Canada’s national archives agency, maintains an online database of the service records of all individuals who served in what was called the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) in World War One. All Canadians who served in that war are now deceased, so the files are completely public.
A database of World War Two Service Files also provides access to the military service records of Canadians who died during the conflict while serving.
These records are excellent for anyone interested in learning more about their ancestors who served, for students needing information for History assignments, for historical researchers, and for anyone else interested in knowing more about the wartime military service of Canadians.
The service records can be accessed at https://www.canada.ca/en/library-archives/services/public/access-information-privacy/records-request.html.
