It will cost $95,000 more for a new UV system at the L’Orignal Wastewater Treatment Plant and the trade situation with the United States is the reason.

On October 22, Champlain Township Council approved an increase in the budget for the new system to $535,000 from $440,000.

According to a report presented to council by Director of Public Works Maxime Lafrance, the original amount for the UV system replacement had been allocated in the 2025 municipal budget. The existing UV treatment system is obsolete and very difficult to obtain parts for when repairs are required. Champlain Township has purchased all of the available spare parts to keep the system functioning until the replacement system is installed in 2026.

According to the report, the original budget for the new UV system was based on 2024 pricing, which was established before US tariffs impacted various components and materials that have impacted costs.

Mayor Normand Riopel remarked about the $95,000 increase in the budget for the new UV system at the L’Orignal Wastewater Treatment Plant, but neither he nor members of council had any further comments or questions before adopting the resolution to approve the increased budget.
