Municipal election day is Sunday, November 2 in Québec and Sarah Lacasse Dwyer is running for mayor of the village of Grenville against Pierre Thauvette who has held the position since 2019.

Lacasse Dwyer is a notary who is self-employed with her own practice in the village. She said housing and health services are the two main reasons she decided to run for mayor.

“We must make housing more affordable and increase the amount of housing available and increase health services to citizens,” she said.

Lacasse Dwyer wants the Centre local des services communautaires (CLSC) community health centre in Grenville to be open five days per week. The facility is temporarily closed due to water damage in the building, but previously, it operated only part-time. She is also concerned about the pressure of development and growth on infrastructure and wants more planning and increased emphasis on community security.

Due to her legal background, Lacasse Dwyer believes she has the knowledge of laws and procedures required to properly govern, but also to engage with the regional and other levels of government. Prior to 2022, she also served as a councillor in Harrington for two terms.

Attracting health professionals and increased health services to Grenville is a priority for Lacasse Dwyer.

“More ambulance service would increase the population’s security and health.  If our town is thriving, we can attract more health professionals to settle down in our town and offer their services directly,” she said.

Lacasse Dwyer said as Mayor of Grenville, she would be able to use her skills to achieve tangible results.

“I know who the key players are and how to get the benefits for my community.  Also, as mayor of Grenville, I can have direct contact with my citizens and I can see the investments benefit my community immediately, its very gratifying.”

Early voting in the municipal election in Grenville, and in municipalities across Québec, is on Sunday, October 26. Election Day is one week later on Sunday, November 2.
