On Saturday, October 18, the Alexandria Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) executive announced on social media that it has made the difficult decision to suspend AMHA operations for the next two seasons.

“This decision was not made lightly. It comes after extensive discussion, reflection, and review of the challenges and opportunities for our association, both on and off the ice,” read the announcement.

AMHA President Frank Lavigne emphasized there will still be minor hockey in Alexandria during the next two years.

“Leagues are not suspended, our association is following the steps to be able to evaluate options moving forward with minor hockey in our area,” he said.

“Our goal is to find a solution by either forming alliances, partnership or merger with neighbouring associations and be able to offer minor hockey for all age groups and levels for many years to come,” added Lavigne.

The AMHA is holding a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, November 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Michel Depratto Hall on the upper level of the Glengarry Sports Palace at 170 MacDonald Blvd in Alexandria.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend. This meeting will provide an opportunity for the board to share further details on this process. Please note that questions will be addressed at the meeting, not before. Questions may be submitted in advance by emailing [email protected].

In the weeks ahead, a dedicated working group will be formed to explore all options and develop potential solutions aimed at ensuring the best possible outcomes for players, families, and the broader AMHA hockey community. At this time, the league invites parents or community members who are interested in actively participating in this process to submit their interest by Friday, October 24 to [email protected].
