At the Champlain Township council meeting on Thursday, September 25, the Champlain Library reported membership growth, totalling 2,171 individuals as of August 31, 2025. The library also highlighted community engagement and outreach, as well as summer programming.
Champlain Library CEO Cynthia Martin stated in the report that 194 members have joined since August 2024, a 9.81 per cent increase. Membership includes 1,677 Champlain residents, 301 from East Hawkesbury, and 179 from outside the township.
Website traffic also rose compared to last summer, with monthly visits increasing between 34 to 74 per cent. In June alone, 468 users visited the site, up from 269 in 2024.
Participation in children’s programming also grew, with 60 children registered in the Summer Reading Club. Over 45 events were held throughout the summer, and 464 children participated, including 40 individuals attending the wrap-up event at Ouimet Farms.
Summer outreach included a partnership with Eco Est and ButterflyWay, which distributed over 60 pollinator plants to individuals. A bookmark-making workshop also raised $125 for the library.
The report noted minor refurbishments, including the doorbell being replaced and the street number being repainted. However, the air conditioning unit has not been working since August 25. The required part for repair has been ordered, and staff have continued to work despite temperatures rising above 28 degrees.
