The North Glengarry Fire Department (NGFD) released its 2024 annual report to township council on Monday, August 11. The report highlighted the number of incident responses, completed training for firefighters, and community engagement initiatives during the previous year.

In 2024, NGFD responded to 221 incidents—42 fewer than in 2023, representing a 19 per cent decrease.

Of the 2024 incidents, firefighters responded to 46 fires, 41 medical calls, 32 fire alarms, 38 vehicle collisions, and 12 carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. The remaining 52 incidents included providing automatic mutual aid, responding to public hazards and pre-fire conditions.

NGFD Fire Chief Matthew Roy said, “Our members work and train hard to provide superior emergency response in firefighting, medical aid, and rescue services to our community.”

Throughout the year, 22 firefighters achieved their full National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certification, with 14 completing Hazmat Awareness and Operations Training.

In addition to training efforts, NGFD partnered with numerous local organizations and institutions, hosting 30 events and reaching more than 4,000 people. Education campaigns such as the “Saved by the Beep: Test Your Smoke Alarm Day” and the “12 Days of Holiday Safety” were two of the largest conducted.

NGFD also participated in 20 fire drills at North Glengarry schools, distributing more than 500 resources, and conducting more than 60 inspections.

Roy concluded, “NGFD is committed to providing the highest level of service to our community through a comprehensive delivery of service using three lines of defence: fire safety education, fire code enforcement, and efficient emergency response.”
