Vankleek Hill was reverberating with peals of laughter on Saturday, August 2, as Derek Seguin – one of Canada’s top comedians – took the stage at the Windsor Tavern for Ribs & Giggles comedy night.
Montréal-based Seguin, one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians on the international circuit, quickly showed the audience why he is in such demand, with material based around his family drawing the biggest laughs of the night. On stage for much longer than his scheduled one-hour set, Seguin moved quickly from joke to joke, not allowing anyone a chance to even catch their breath between peals of laughter.
Seguin brought along fellow comedian Wassim El-Mounzer as his special guest. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, and raised in Montréal, El-Mounzer’s audience interactive style quickly won over the crowd, which reacted with constant laughter, as he riffed on his Lebanese-Canadian heritage, relationships, and past experiences as an English teacher in a sharp, 45-minute set that set a high standard for Seguin to follow.
Prior to the 7 p.m. start time of the comedy show, those in attendance were treated to a delicious smoked ribs meal, prepared by Chef Michel “Pox” Paquette.
