A Hawkesbury family is temporarily homeless and without possessions after a fire destroyed their house overnight on Saturday, July 12.
Christiane Tremblay lived in the house on Kipling Street with three other family members. During the afternoon on Sunday, July 13, she said the fire started at around 9:10 Saturday evening and she believed something malfunctioned in the electrical panel to cause the fire.
Hawkesbury firefighters immediately responded. Firefighters from L’Orignal, Vankleek Hill, St-Eugène, Grenville, and Brownsburg-Chatham also assisted at the scene. Tremblay said firefighters remained at the site until around 4 am Sunday.
“I thank them very much,” Tremblay said of the firefighters.
There were no injuries. The heat from the fire also damaged the wall of the house next door.
Unfortunately, Tremblay’s entire house, where she had lived for 25 years, and its contents, were destroyed.
“Nothing, all lost,” she said.
Friends and family members are collecting donations of items. For more information, please contact [email protected] .
The Canadian Red Cross has provided temporary accommodation for the family for one week. They will then have to find another temporary place to live. Fortunately, the house was insured and Tremblay vowed on Sunday that she will rebuild.
“I will build a new house. This is my home,” she said.
