The construction of Hawkesbury’s new municipal garage is on time and on budget, according to a report from the Director of Public Works.

Jonathan Wilson’s report was presented to town council on Monday, June 23.

Construction of the new garage on Spence Avenue began in October 2024 with a budget of $10.8 million. Beaudoin Canada, the general contractor, has until November 30, 2025, to complete the project.

Wilson’s report indicates that the project is progressing well and is not significantly behind schedule. A contingency of $500,000 was set aside for additional expenses. As of June 23, $327,412.74 of that contingency had been used. Wilson is confident that contingency expenditures will not exceed the amount of $500,000.

Once construction is complete, Department of Public Works staff will move the equipment and materials from the old garage on Main Street East to the new garage. Winter road maintenance will be carried out from the new garage. A recommendation will be presented to the council to approve a budget next year for the demolition of the old garage.

There was no discussion among council members in response to Wilson’s report.

Hawkesbury council decided to build a new municipal garage in 2022 because of the inadequate space and poor condition of the current municipal garage, which was built around 1970.
