The Member of Parliament (MP) for Prescott-Russell-Cumberland wants to have a positive connection with municipal mayors in the district.

On Wednesday, June 25, MP Giovanna Mingarelli introduced herself to United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) Council.

Mingarelli, who was elected to represent the district in the House of Commons in the federal election on April 28, highlighted her 25 years of experience working in federal politics in an administrative capacity. She told the mayors she wants to bring prosperity to the region, establish meaningful connections, and make sure voices are heard in Ottawa. Mingarelli said she is looking forward to getting to know UCPR Council and is already aware of some of the projects and funding initiatives involving the regional government.

Mingarelli said her Hawkesbury constituency office is now open, and the Rockland office will open this summer.

“I am very content we will connect and continue the conversation,” she said.

Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre said he is pleased the local MP will continue to have a constituency office in the town.

Russell Township Mayor Mike Tarnowski was optimistic about working with the new MP.

“We’re excited to work with you, get to know you, and make sure that our community benefits as much as possible,” Tarnowski said.

Clarence-Rockland Mayor Mario Zanth referred to the many challenges the UCPR’s municipalities are facing right now and the need for federal cooperation.

“Each of our municipalities has very big projects,” Zanth said.
