It rains in all cultures, and it certainly did for the opening night of the Hawkesbury Multicultural Festival on Friday, June 27.
Organizers dispensed with the opening ceremony for the fourth year of the downtown festival of music and celebration of cultural diversity because of heavy rain that moved in. The downpour did not stop the evening entertainment on stage at Place des Pionniers. Manon Séguin opened the show and got the crowd excited for the headliner of the evening, Roch Voisine. Dedicated fans wearing raincoats and other waterproof clothing held firm and enjoyed the performance.
The festival continued on Saturday, June 28 with a series of musical performances throughout the day both on the smaller stage and main stage at Place des Pionniers. Fortunately, the weather on Saturday was much drier.
Late night performances were held both days at Déja-Vu Resto-Bar on Main Street.
Now in its fourth year, the Hawkesbury Multicultural Festival is presented as part of Hawkesbury’s designation as a Communauté francophone accueillante/Welcoming francophone community.
