The Glengarry Pioneer Museum is hosting a A Stitch In Time, a captivating event dedicated to the art and history of textiles. This unique celebration will take place on Saturday, July 12, from 10 am to 4 pm, offering a day filled with enriching and hands-on activities for all ages.
Event Highlights:
- Historical Textiles: Explore a stunning collection of historical textiles from the museum’s collection displayed in contrast with contemporary pieces made by members of quilt guilds, spinning and weaving guilds and individual textile artists in a variety of fibre mediums.
- Textile Vendors: Browse and shop from a variety of textile vendors showcasing their exquisite fabrics, threads, wool and other textile-related products.
- Guest Speakers: Attend insightful talks by experts in the field. The three featured talks will cover:
- Kilt Making: Learn about the traditional techniques and cultural significance of kilt making.
- The Importance of Choosing Thread: Understand the critical role thread selection plays in textile creation.
- Sewing Hacks: Discover practical sewing tips and tricks to enhance your sewing projects.
- Demonstrators: Watch live demonstrations of various textile skills. Try your hand rug hooking, spinning, needle felting and more. Maybe you will find your next favourite hobby!
- Waulking the Cloth: Join in with members of the Glengarry Twistle Guild as they describe and have visitors join them in demonstrating a Scottish work bee to felt a bolt of wool to the tunes of a Gaelic working song.
- Children’s Activities: Engage the little ones with fun and educational activities designed to spark their interest in textile crafts. Kids and the young at heart can wet felt wool and other fun activities.
- Food On Site: Enjoy delicious food and refreshments available throughout the event.
