The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is investigating the specific cause of damage to at least eight vehicles on eastbound Highway 417 between Highland Road and McCrimmon Road during the afternoon and early evening of Tuesday, June 24.
It appeared the damage was caused by rough concrete pavement.
Emergency repairs were made to the highway on Tuesday evening.
Ministry spokesperson Tanya Blazina said permanent road and permanent concrete pavement repairs will follow. The Ministry will continue to closely monitor pavement conditions and carry out maintenance and repair work as needed.
Blazina also said if a vehicle was damaged due to poor pavement conditions, owners can submit a claim within 10 days of the incident.
Many social media comments about the vehicle damage on Highway 417 mistakenly identified the highway as a municipal road. Highway 417, and all other Ontario highways signed with a crown sign are the responsibility of the Ontario government under the Ministry of Transportation.
