One of the most prominent industries in Vankleek Hill celebrated its 30th anniversary on Thursday, June 19.
Metec (Metal Technology Inc.), located on Terry Fox Drive in the Vankleek Hill Business Park, was started by Christian Walz and Shigi Walz in 1995. The precision machining and metal fabrication company manufactures parts for the helicopter industry and attachments including snowblowers, snowplows, and cleaning brushes for road maintenance vehicles. The next generation, under the leadership of Marc Walz, has Metec positioned for continued growth and specialization. The company has expanded five times in 30 years and now has 27 employees.
“We’re growing at a good pace,” said Marc to an audience of employees, clients, and friends on June 19.
He thanked the employees for their skill and dedication to producing quality products. Metec is currently engaging with more customers in Europe. Marc gave a Croatian company as an example.
“I’m just really looking forward to the future with everyone here,” he remarked.
Christian thanked Shigi for her dedication to the success of Metec.
“Without her, we would not be here today,” he said.
Christian continued by saying that Metec has been fortunate to have employees and apprentices who are dedicated to quality work and advancement of the company.
“We’ve found very good employees and apprentices.”
He also said Metec has always tried to give its employees a good quality of life.
“That’s what Metec stands for as a family business.”
The current trade situation between Canada and the United States has created uncertainty for many industries, but the next five months are looking positive for Metec.
“We are busy until the end of November,” Marc told the employees at the anniversary celebration.
He said it is good to know there is enough work despite the global situation.
