From July 10 to 13, the oldest fair in Québec and the second oldest in Canada returns to the Lachute fairgrounds to celebrate the 200th year of the Expo Lachute Fair. The event began in 1825 and is organized by the Argenteuil Agricultural Society (AAS).
To mark the bicentennial, fair organizers are hosting a special country music night on July 4, featuring Canadian artists The Reklaws, Matt Lang, and Québécoise singer-songwriter Justine Blanchet.
A wide range of shows, activities, and competitions have been planned to appeal to all ages throughout the four-day event.
AAS General Manager Scott Lees said that ticket prices are “always $10 or $20 less than others. This year, I think it’s $40 to $45 less. We’re trying to help the families; things are tight right now, and we understand that, so we wanted to give the best price we could without going bankrupt.”
Highlights include a monster truck show on opening day, several tractor and modified truck pulls, horse competitions, and two demolition derbies—one with decommissioned school buses.
The ticket price also includes midway rides and games, along with farm animal exhibitions, pedigree livestock displays, and local handicrafts.
Lees explained that promoting agriculture remains the core mission of the AAS. “This is why it’s imperative to have horses on the ground, cattle in the barn, and to promote farm safety.”
“We want to promote agriculture, alongside our fellow organizations like the Québec Ministry of Agriculture, Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil, and the Québec Farmers Association (QFA), and educate citizens who have no contact with farming. This gives them a chance to connect with producers, their equipment, and animals,” Lees said.
