Ecolomondo has increased the tire shredding production at its facility on Tessier Street in  Hawkesbury.

The company recently announced the successful commissioning of its new milling equipment and the startup of commissioning of the entire recovered carbon black (“rCB”) processing line, needed for continuous production of rCB and the Hawkesbury plant as a whole. Achieving this next milestone is expected to set the stage for increased activities at the Hawkesbury facility.

This anticipated increase of activities is expected to require higher volumes of crumb rubber and therefore, in preparation, the Hawkesbury plant has recently added a second work shift in the Tire Shredding Department to ensure the supply of crumb rubber to achieve the facility’s higher production goals.

The Hawkesbury facility has three departments: Tire shredding, Thermal Decomposition Process (“TDP”), and rCB processing. It is important that each department works in tandem with each other. To perform a batch of 15,000 lbs, it requires 15,000 lbs of crumb rubber loaded into a TDP reactor. The TDP reactor decomposes the crumb rubber into gas, oil and rCB. The gas is consumed to fire up the reactor for the following batch, the oil is sent to a holding tank to be shipped to an off-take customer and requires no further processing, while the rCB requires further processing in the rCB Processing department. Once completed, the rCB is bagged and ready for shipment to off-take customers.

Once fully operational, the Hawkesbury TDP facility is expected to process approximately 1.3 million to 1.5 million scrap tires per year and produce on average approximately 4,000 metric tonnes of recovered carbon black, 5,000 metric tonnes of pyrolysis oil, 2,000 metric tonnes of steel, and 1,200 metric tonnes of process gas.
