After months of reorganization and careful planning, The Nation Public Library is reopening its services, beginning Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Following a temporary closure in January, this milestone represents a meaningful step toward restoring library services across The Nation Municipality. While full operations are still on the horizon, core services such as book lending, returns, and general inquiries will once again be available at all three branches. Library programming remains paused for now but will return in the future.

As part of this gradual return, library branches will operate on reduced hours:

  • Monday: Limoges — 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (starting June 23rd)
  • Tuesday: St-Isidore — 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: St-Albert — 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: Limoges — 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (starting June 26th)
  • Friday: St-Isidore — 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to return borrowed materials, drop in to meet the new Library Manager, and take a few moments to complete a short survey. Community feedback will help shape the next chapter of library services in The Nation. The survey is available on the municipal website.

The reopening is supported by a small but dedicated team committed to rebuilding library services with care, transparency, and input from the community. As the year progresses, the library will gradually expand services, hire additional staff, and introduce new opportunities

Refund Program ends June 16

To support residents during the closure, The Nation Municipality offered to reimburse membership fees for those who accessed services at other libraries. This reimbursement program ends on June 16, 2025.

Residents may still submit a refund request if they meet the eligibility criteria. Learn more here: https://nationmun.ca/en/library-closure-information-residents

Background

In December 2024, The Nation Municipality Council made the difficult decision to temporarily close library branches, effective January 1, 2025. This was due to governance challenges following the resignation of several Library Board members and the retirement of the Library CEO. Without the leadership required under the Public Libraries Act, the Library was unable to operate.

Since then, a new Library Board has been appointed and has worked closely with municipal staff to develop a renewed, sustainable vision for library services in The Nation.
