On Saturday, June 7, the municipality of Saint-André-d’Argenteuil held its annual Fête du bon voisinage, marking the 225th anniversary of St-André-Est/St. Andrew’s East. The village, surrounding rural area, and the village of Carillon are now part of Saint-André-d’Argenteuil.

Incorporated in 1800, Saint-André-Est boasts more than two centuries of historical wonder and charm. This includes being the birthplace of Canada’s third Prime Minister John Abbott, born in 1821.

In the early afternoon, visitors joined a guided tour along rue Principale, led by the Director of the Musée Régional d’Argenteuil Robert Simard.

The tour highlighted informative facts about the region’s history, its early settlers, and the development of local industry during the 19th century.

Participants also had the opportunity to speak with a historical interpreter portraying Dr. Maude Abbott, one of the first women doctors in Canada, who was from the community and a cousin of Sir John Abbott.

Throughout the day, participants browsed local vendors, met the town’s firefighters, and enjoyed live country and rock music by the Henri Band.

Creative and engaging activities were provided by Au cœur des générations d’Argenteuil for the young ones.
