Autoroute 50 across Argenteuil and the Outaouais region is now part of a targeted intervention project designed for collision response and prevention.
The 158-kilometre section of highway between Mirabel and Gatineau is one 10 highways part of the Zone Zéro project because there have been several serious and fatal collisions along the road. Ten hotspots have been identified in collaboration between the Sûreté du Québec, Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec (MTMD), and Contrôle routier Québec (CRQ). The Zone Zéro approach is a response strategy designed to intervene more specifically in accident-prone areas. It proposes a firm and coordinated approach by targeting the main causes of collisions, equipping patrol officers with concrete and specific actions to take, and educating road users about taking responsibility for their own behaviour.
