On Monday, May 26, North Glengarry council approved two donation requests to plant trees in township-owned parks. Township staff informed council that two organizations wish to enhance the area’s natural beauty, and one also seeks to commemorate the life of local business owner Amanda Maloney.

A tree and commemorative plaque donated by the Maxville and District Chamber of Commerce and the Maxville and District Lion’s Club will honour Maloney, who owned Swiss Farmer Barkery and died in a car accident on Highway 138 on March 29, 2025.

The tree and plaque will be installed in King George Park at a later date to honour Maloney and her family.

Planting also planned for Island Park

Alexandria Moulding also offered to donate a large maple tree for Island Park in Alexandria. The company has participated annually in Alexandria’s Canada Day celebrations, previously handing out pine and spruce saplings to attendees.

Staff said that the township’s Community Services Department will work in partnership with the organizations to coordinate the logistics of installing the trees in the specified parks.

Mayor Jamie MacDonald said, “It is really nice of them to come forward with these donation requests. It’s great we can work with them and see these projects come to fruition.”

Council unanimously approved the donation requests without further discussion. Councillor Jacques Massie was absent from the meeting.
