A suspect has been arrested and could face charges following an alleged hit and run involving two cyclists in Rigaud.

Sûreté du Québec Sergeant Elisabeth Mattice confirmed that 54-year-old Brian Poirier was arrested on Sunday, May 25 in connection to an alleged hit-and-run that occurred on Saturday, May 24, in which two cyclists were injured in a collision with a vehicle on chemin du Haut-de-la-Chute in Rigaud.

Mattice said the cyclists were injured but could not comment further on their condition.

Poirier, 54, contacted police and reported to the Sûreté du Québec Vaudreuil-Soulanges Est station. He was questioned by investigators and later made a court appearance by video conference in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. Mattice said charges are pending.

Police officers also located the vehicle used by the suspect in the collision in Vankleek Hill, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The vehicle was seized and examined by Sûreté du Québec forensic investigators.
