One person has been arrested after a bank robbery in Russell.
On Tuesday, May 27, just after 9:30 a.m., officers with the Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported robbery in progress at a bank on Concession Street in the village of Russell.
The male suspect had fled before officers arrived. Witnesses were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect, and the vehicle used to flee the scene.
When an officer located and stopped the suspect’s car a few minutes later, the driver deliberately collided with the cruiser at low speed. The driver then drove off. Officers with the Hawkesbury Detachment were able to stop the car just before 10:30 a.m. on Highway 417 and a male was arrested without further incident.
Jeffrey Quintal, age 40 of Clarence-Rockland, has been charged with:
- Robbery with violence
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from a peace officer – two counts
- Mischief under $5000
The accused was held in custody and was to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on May 29.
