Eastbound traffic on Autoroute 50 near Lachute was completely stopped for nearly an hour on Saturday, May 10 because of a collision on the bridge over Rivière-du-Nord. The Sûreté du Québec and firefighters responded, but no ambulance arrived. A patrol vehicle from the Québec transport ministry arrived to help redirect traffic and get it moving. It was difficult for emergency vehicles to reach the scene due to the stopped traffic and some drivers were making less effort than others to make space for the emergency vehicles. In Québec and Ontario, drivers are required by law to move over to allow emergency vehicles to reach an emergency scene.
