The Mobile Book Garden (MBG) launch took place at the Glengarry Market on Saturday, April 26. Jenn Luchuk of Martintown, created the project, which is centred in Alexandria, where it serves the community as a mobile bookstore offering a curated selection of new and gently used books for purchase, including those from regional authors.
Luchuk explained that the primary motivation behind the initiative was “to combine the things we love—books, community, social justice, supporting and collaborating with small businesses—in a way that aligns with our values, connects with the community, and could also support our family. It’s the perfect way to immerse ourselves in that world and shine a light on all the talented local authors!”

Maxville author Natasha Derouchie, who was on hand for a meet-and-greet and book signing, proudly discussed the first book of her trilogy, Blood Secrets: Dark Dissent, and her contemporary tale of love, loss, and healing, Chasing Loons.

“I started with the Blood Secrets trilogy, with book one released this past November. It’s an urban fantasy and supernatural thriller,” Derouchie said.
Blood Secrets follows Detective Kelly Munroe as she uncovers her past and grapples with her destiny.
Book two, Blood Secrets: Shadows of the Past, will be released on May 20, 2025, and continues Munroe’s journey.
Derouchie channels her creativity into writing, blending the worlds of fantasy, mystery, and emotional depth.
“I am really looking forward to completing the trilogy, hopefully by the end of this year, and then working on some other ideas I have waiting in the wings,” Derouchie concluded.
Luchuk said that MBG plans to be active throughout the warmer months, highlighting local authors, fundraising, and collaborating with other small businesses.
“We are also getting ready to relaunch our website, thebookgarden.org, which will allow people to shop our inventory online at their convenience with options for free local pick up or paid delivery by Canada Post. If anyone is interested in having us attend their event they can always reach out to us via email or through our social media pages,” Luchuk said.
