A traffic detour lasting up to five months will soon take effect in Russell Township near Embrun while a new roundabout is constructed.

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) is closing Closure of County Road 5 (St-Albert Road West), between County Road 3 (Notre-Dame Street/Route 500 West) and Route 400, as of May 12, 2025.

A roundabout will be built at the intersection of County Road 3 and County Road 5. At present, this intersection consists a four-way stop. The construction work should last until the end of fall 2025.

“This is a very busy intersection, because it links Embrun, Limoges, St-Albert, and Casselman. The new roundabout will therefore allow for smoother traffic flow in the area. We ask residents and visitors to exercise caution near the construction site and on the detour roads,” said UCPR Director of Public Works, Jérémie Bouchard.

Construction work will be completed in several phases, so road closures will change over the coming months. Further details on the detours will be available at www.municipal511.ca. The proposed detour for the first phase, which should be in place until the end of August 2025, is as follows:

  • Going south on County Road 5 (to go towards St-Albert): first, west on Notre‑Dame Street; next, south on St-Joseph Road; and then, east on Route 400.
  • Going north on County Road 5 (to go towards Limoges): first, west on Route 400; next, north on St-Joseph Road; and then, east on Notre-Dame Street.
