The last weekend of April will be a busy one at Arbor Gallery, when it will host two hands-on arts workshops for the community.

On Saturday, April 26, from 10am-12pm, local musician Wayne Stoute will lead a Percussion Workshop for ages 10 years and up. This event will begin with the instructor sharing percussion instruments from his own collection and discussing how the environment shapes the type of instruments created and played within a culture. Participants will then have the chance to craft their own percussion instruments using materials found in their homes and use their new instruments in a group performance at the workshop’s conclusion. The cost for the workshop is $20. Stoute is a member of the popular Caribbean music trio Jab Djab and a music teacher who participates in Vankleek Hill’s annual summer music camp.

The next day, Sunday, April 27, Arbor Gallery will host Robin Whitford’s workshop, an Introduction to Traditional Rug Hooking, which runs from 1pm-3pm. In this beginner friendly event, participants will learn the basics of the craft while creating a charming Spring bird ornament. The cost for the workshop is $50 plus a materials fee. Hammond, Ontario-based Whitford is the owner of Hooking Outside the Lines and the founder of the Creativity Club, an online rug hooking membership group.

Pre-registration is required for these events. For full details about these workshops, consult the events calendar on the Gallery’s website, www.arborgallery.org, or call (613) 678-6171. Arbor Gallery is located at 103 High St. in Vankleek Hill.
