Arbor Gallery’s latest exhibition “Out of Our Minds: The Art of Imagination” features work by students from Vankleek Hill’s Art & Dream Studio. This community exhibition has become an annual tradition at the Gallery, a chance for the art school’s students to share their works with the public in a professional gallery setting.
This year, the show includes paintings, works in pencil, and crafts by both adults and children. The youngest is four years old.
Art & Dream Studio has offered weekly classes in drawing, painting and arts and crafts for all ages since 2021. It also hosts guest teachers in watercolour and other activities, as well as offering a summer camp program. Recently, the school relocated from its High Street location to 36 Home Ave. in Vankleek Hill. Information about the school’s programming is available on Facebook @Art and Dream Studio or by contacting [email protected].
The school’s owner and main instructor is Stephanie Pete. “We chose the exhibition title ‘Out of Our Minds: The Art of Imagination’ to talk about the exciting skill of thinking for oneself and experimenting with ideas,” says Pete. “In a world increasingly shaped by the influence of social media and mass media, the ability to think for oneself has become an endangered and important skill. Learning art is a process of building skills to facilitate personal expression and critical thinking.”
Pete is proud to showcase her students’ talents. “It’s my privilege to work with these students of all ages and to share their work with you. A great part of our exhibits has always been the families that come to the Gallery to see their artwork.”
“Out of Our Minds” runs from April 10 to May 3. The public is welcome to attend the vernissage on April 12 from 1pm – 3pm; light refreshments will be served. Arbor Gallery is located at 103 High St., Vankleek Hill. For further information, visit www.arborgallery.org or call (613) 678-6171.
