The Centre Culturel Le Chenail Cultural Centre team celebrated the beginning of its 50th artistic season on Wednesday, April 2. As a local non-profit located inside the historic Maison de l’Île in Hawkesbury, the centre has provided community members of all ages with a Francophone cultural program that encourages participation, collaboration, and local creativity.
Prior to cutting the 50th season cake, Director General of the centre and artist Lynda Clouette-Mackay explained, “Over the years, our cultural centre has become much more than just a place for artistic expression: it is a space for meeting and sharing. Thanks to you—artists, volunteers, partners, and visitors—we have been able to build an environment where the French language flourishes and creativity shines.”
Attendees were reminded that the centre remains dedicated to fostering collaboration, pride, and a sense of belonging within the French-speaking community. The centre aims to enrich the lives of residents through a series of exhibitions, performances, and activities throughout the 2025-2026 season.
Some of the exciting events for this artistic season include a monthly Piano Bar series with J.M. Turpin, the Festival Petits Bonheurs Hawkesbury from May 9 to 11, and Natacha Marleau’s artistic exhibition from September 6 to 28.

Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre stated, “Culture is an essential need often overlooked. Cultural events reflect the soul and personal identity. We believe it is vital to encourage their development in our community and among our youth.”
Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Stéphane Sarrazin, thanked Le Chenail’s team for their continued efforts in providing arts and culture to the community.
“These 50 years mark an impressive journey, and I am confident that many more wonderful things lie ahead for Le Chenail and its many partners,” Sarrazin concluded.
