At its Monday, March 24 meeting, North Glengarry council unanimously approved two additional Community Grants to the Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation (GMHF) and the Lochiel Centre. A total of $3,500 in funding and $1,584 for in-kind contributions were awarded.

Each year, North Glengarry council sets aside funds to support community projects and events within the township. Applications are then vetted by the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Advisory Committee (ACHC), with their recommendations being presented to council.

The first round of the Community Grants Program took place earlier in 2025, with the approval of $18,996.86 in funding and $1,747 in in-kind funds allocated. The remaining amount of $6,003.14 was available for a second intake process.

A report to council stated that three applications were submitted, requesting a total of $7,000 in funding and $1,584 in in-kind contributions. The ACHC met on March 17 and determined that two of the three applications met the required criteria for selection.

The Lochiel Centre requested and received $3,500 for their initiative. The funds would be used to support entertainment costs and advertising for the centre’s 10th anniversary. The GMHF requested and received $1,584 in in-kind funding to use the Tim Horton’s Dome to host their Washer Tournament, which generates funds to enhance Glengarry Memorial Hospital services.

The Glengarry Pipe Band requested $3,500 to assist in the purchase of chanters, reeds, and drumheads for the youth band. The application was denied because capital items, such as instruments and equipment, are not eligible for funding.
