It cost taxpayers in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) $480,627 to pay members of the regional government’s council in 2024.
Each mayor from the eight municipalities of the UCPR serves on the regional council. However, in 2024, remuneration was paid to nine members because former Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux resigned and was then replaced by current Mayor Mike Tarnowski. Leroux was also serving as UCPR Warden before his resignation and was succeeded by Champlain Township Mayor Normand Riopel.
Each council member’s UCPR salary varied according to their role and committee responsibilities. As Warden for most of the year, Riopel was paid a salary of $62,480 and $13,023 for travel and conference expenses, resulting in a total remuneration of $75,503. In 2024 Leroux was paid a salary of $22,453 and $8,375 for conference and travel expenses, bringing his remuneration to $30,828.
The Nation Mayor Francis Brière was paid a total of $58,354 in 2024 from the UCPR. The actual salary was $48,030 and the remainder was for travel and conference expenses.
East Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Kirby’s 2024 UCPR salary was $47,820. When travel and conference expenses are added, his total remuneration for the year was $53,256.
Casselman Mayor Geneviève Lajoie’s total UCPR remuneration in 2024 was $59,561. Out of that total, $48,135 was the salary she received, and the rest was for conference and travel expenses.
The 2024 UCPR council salary for Alfred and Plantagenet Mayor Yves Laviolette was $50,127. When expenses for travel and conferences are added, Laviolette’s total 2024 UCPR council remuneration was $58,279.
Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre was paid a UCPR council salary of $48,135. After the addition of conference and travel expenses, his total remuneration from the UCPR in 2024 was $57,188.
Russell Township Mayor Mike Tarnowski only served for part of 2024 on UCPR council. His council salary was $28,537 and total remuneration after conference and travel expenses was $30,522.
The total UCPR remuneration for Clarence-Rockland Mayor Mario Zanth was $57,136 in 2024, including conference and travel expenses. The actual UCPR salary Zanth received in 2024 was $48,135.
The amount paid to each mayor by the UCPR in 2024 is in addition to what each individual municipality pays their mayor in remuneration.
