An Official Plan Amendment (OPA) and Zoning Bylaw Amendment ZBA before Alfred and Plantagenet council would, if adopted, allow for the construction of a new fire and paramedic station for the village of Alfred.

On March 4, a public meeting for the OPA and ZBA took place during the regular township council meeting. The land is located at 4916 County Road 17 on the north side of the road at the west end of Alfred. The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet already owns the land and is the applicant for the OPA and ZBA.

If adopted, the OPA would change the current land use designation from Economic Enterprise Policy Area and Residential Policy Area to Institutional Policy Area. The ZBA, if adopted, would change the zoning of the property from Highway Commercial (C3) and Development (D) to Institutional (I) to accommodate a new Township of Alfred and Plantagenet fire station and United Counties of Prescott and Russell paramedic station.

No comments were received from the public prior to the meeting, and no comments were made by members of the public in attendance at the March 4 meeting. Additionally, there were no comments or questions from members of council.

Both the OPA and ZBA will return to council for consideration at a future meeting.
