The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has confirmed a 73-year-old man died in a house fire in Chute-à-Blondeau early in the morning of Saturday, March 1.

According to East Hawkesbury Fire Chief Bryce Luker the call to the home on rue des Cèdres was received at around 12:45 am on Saturday. Firefighters from East Hawkesbury, Hawkesbury, and Champlain firefighters from Vankleek Hill and L’Orignal responded. Luker said an occupant was located inside the house.

Luker said the fire started in the basement near the rear of the house. The fire was under control in about two hours.

The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshall (OFM) was contacted to investigate the cause of the fire. OFM investigators and the OPP remained at the site during the weekend.

The house was not destroyed but Luker said the future of the structure is unknown.
