The Argenteuil community is mourning the loss of a respected citizen.

Cécile Wojas died on February 15, she was 81.

The staff and elected officials of the Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil worked closely with Wojas during her years of active involvement in the Corporation de transport adapté et collectif. Wojas was deeply involved with the establishment of accessible transportation in Argenteuil, and served as the agency’s president from 1999 to 2015 when it was integrated into the MRC.

Wojas was also involved with other community organizations including the Centre local de développement d’Argenteuil, Rond Point Loisirs, and la Citad’Elle. She also worked with the Association des personnes paraplegiques du Québec for nearly 15 years.

In addition to her significant community involvement, Wojas was a teacher for 36 years in Montréal and Lachute. She was a pioneer in the integration of horticulture in schools and in the region’s 4H Clubs. The auditorium of the École polyvalente Lavigne was named in her honour. Wojas was also the instigator of a project that led to the establishment of university courses for Argenteuil’s senior population in the early 2000s.

This great pioneer received many awards and distinctions during her life, including the prestigious Prix Hommage bénévolat-Québec in 2002.

The MRC d’Argenteuil would like to offer its most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Cécile Wojas. A period of reflection will be dedicated to the memory of Ms. Wojas at the next council meeting.

A celebration of life for Cécile Wojas will take place on March 22 at Salon Roland Ménard in Lachute.
