After getting stuck once, the driver of a stolen vehicle got stuck a second time and was arrested in Brownsburg-Chatham on Tuesday, February 18.
At around 7 am, Sûreté du Québec police officers from the Outaouais autoroute station were informed about a vehicle being driven erratically on Autoroute 50 eastbound, in L’Ange-Gardien near Gatineau. The caller informed police that the driver had lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a snow bank, but managed to extricate the vehicle and continue eastbound on Autoroute 50. Preliminary information indicated that the vehicle had been reported stolen by the Gatineau Police.
The information was passed on to the Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec for surveillance. Another caller reported erratic driving of a vehicle that matched the first call near kilometre 236, in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
Police were able to locate the vehicle near kilometre 240, and observed the driver driving dangerously. Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle at kilometre 254, in Brownsburg-Chatham, but when they activated the flashing lights, the driver immediately became stuck in the ditch after maneuvering to quickly exit the highway. The driver was quickly arrested by police.
The 21-year-old Montréal man was arrested and taken to the police station in Lachute. He was scheduled to appear on Tuesday in court in Saint-Jérôme. He could face charges of vehicle theft, dangerous driving, flight and breach of an order.
