High winds and snow squalls blew across the region on Monday, January 27 and into Tuesday, January 28, causing widespread power outages and extremely poor driving conditions.

Shortly after 8 pm on Monday, the Hydro One outage map showed up to 1,500 of its customers were without electricity across Prescott-Russell and North Glengarry. The largest outage, affecting more than 900 customers, was near Wendover. Other outages were around Plantagenet, East Hawkesbury, and North Glengarry. As of 10 am Tuesday, less than 100 customers remained without electricity.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had warned drivers to use extreme caution, or to simply not drive on Monday night, due to the poor conditions. Highway 138 was closed Highway 417 and Monkland due to poor road conditions and nearly no visibility.

At around 6 pm on Monday, a vehicle had gone off Highway 34 at the curve near Pattee Road south of Hawkesbury due to drifting snow on the highway.

Power outages occurred across Argenteuil on Monday evening. The Hydro-Québec outage map showed that minor outages were in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge and Harrington. Further southeast, there were more, minor outages around Rigaud. A small number of customers in that area still did not have power on Tuesday morning.

The storm blew through the area quickly. On Tuesday, all area highways were open. Classes were not canceled at local schools, and skies were bright and sunny.
