A local initiative to help the homeless and other people facing economic challenges in Hawkesbury is getting an indoor home of its own.

L’Acadien Préférer, which was started by Hawkesbury resident Rhéal Thibodeau, has been offering hot food, clothing, and personal care items to people in need since late in the Fall of 2024. However, Thibodeau was providing the services outdoors in a downtown Hawkesbury parking lot. That will all change on Sunday, February 2 when L’Acadien Préférer will be set up in the hall at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. The church and Thibodeau have arranged to cooperate so that L’Acadien Préférer can have a warm, indoor space with kitchen and washroom facilities.

Donations and volunteers are welcome. Anyone interested is invited to show up at the Holy Trinity Hall on Sunday, February 2 between 10 am and 2 pm. Individuals wanting to drop by for something to eat or obtain items are welcome from 12 pm to 3 pm.

Until February 2, L’Acadien Préférer will continue to operate outdoors from the parking lot between Burger King and Restaurant Carole in downtown Hawkesbury. Holy Trinity Anglican Church is located at 440 Stanley Street in Hawkesbury.
