Vankleek Hill artist Susan Jephcott continues to display her enduring creativity.

Her latest exhibit, Mutations and Communications opened at Centre Culturel Le Chenail in Hawkesbury on Sunday, January 5.

The exhibition is a combination of new and previous paintings by Jephcott. She decided it was time to share some of them again.

“They haven’t seen the light of day in many years,” she said.

Jephcott’s inspiration comes from her imagination and dreams. Much of that inspiration involves nature and the negative turns humanity and nature may take.

The artist’s career goes back more than 60 years. Originally from Hudson, she also lived and worked in Jamaica, but has made her home in Vankleek Hill for many years. To Jephcott, painting is about making her ideas visible to others.

Success! You're on the list.

“You paint because you have the feeling to explore ideas,” she said.

Dragons, combinations of creatures, and human images are part of the works on display at Le Chenail.

Jephcott is in her mid-80s and retirement is out of the question.

“I was put on this earth to paint. If you know what you’re supposed to be doing, do it,” she said.

Mutations and Communications continues at Centre Culturel Le Chenail until February 9.
